Becca Ireland-Silva: Zombie Walk

I know, I'm an awful blogger. I haven't written in over a week and I would like to say it's because I've been super busy at school and work, but that would be a lie. Honestly, I've just been having one of those past couple of days where all I want to do is stay in and watch Doctor Who nonstop. I haven't felt very inspired lately, which is really disappointing. I've done quite a few things in the last few weeks, I just need to push myself and write about them. So, I'll start by the most exciting bit, and that's the Montreal Zombie Walk that happened over the weekend. I was very excited to finally go, because I couldn't attend last year.

I was lucky enough to have a chance to volunteer as a makeup artist for the walk (is it volunteering if I got paid?), so I was there bright and early. The set up was mostly done by the organizers, as we all waited around for further instructions. Some people showed up in full makeup and holy hell, they are so talented! I hope I can be that good one day. I felt slightly inadequate since I really don't have a lot of experience in special effects makeup. I didn't even really have a full kit like a lot of people did. Still, I managed to get by with my colour wheels and sponges. We were provided with a lot of latex and fake blood, so we each had our basic kit.

This was the first time I had ever done makeup on complete random strangers and it was so weird at first! At first, I was really freaked out about using the latex because I didn't want to hurt anyone by pulling their skin, but eventually I relaxed and just focused on doing a realistic job. Our customers had paid for their zombie makeup so I didn't want to let them down! Also, we were all paired off with a professional makeup artist to help us out. I forgot the name of who I was paired off with, but he was so friendly and I kept peering over to what he was doing to get inspire. There's only so much open wounds and scars that I could create without making everyone look the same.

I kept my face makeup very simple because I didn't have much time in the morning to go anything. I did make the wise decision not the brush my hair after my shower that morning and there is my messy mane result.
